A little about me & what I can offer...
Mitchell is the owner of North and Light Counseling LLC. Mitchell is a seasoned mental health professional with over a decade of experience as a counselor. He has worked in a variety of settings, including outpatient, residential treatment programs, addiction-focused live-in group homes, and school counseling. His clinical background includes working with clients of all ages—children, adolescents, adults, and families. Mitchell specializes in addiction (substance abuse, video game addiction, and phone addiction), trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, problematic sexual behavior, and dysfunctional family dynamics. He holds certifications in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, with academic concentrations in child and adolescent therapy and substance abuse treatment.
Mitchell employs a person-centered therapeutic approach grounded in the core values of compassion, confidentiality, empathy, partnership, belief, and integrity. He is committed to delivering individualized, solution-focused care and draws from a range of therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Choice Theory, and existential psychotherapy.
After completing 4,000 supervised clinical hours toward LPCC licensure under the supervision of Dr. C.P., LP, PhD, LMFT, while counseling at Nexus, Mitchell transitioned into private practice for several reasons. The first reason was to focus on gaining his certification as a biblical counselor. Secondly, he was tired of battling insurance companies and would rather spend that time on his clients. Lastly, it was just a better move for Mitchell's own personal emotional well-being. So Mitchell can't work with individuals seeking for their insurance to cover their counseling, but what he can offer is a fair price, quality care, and a payment plan for individuals, couples or families on a budget!
Mitchell firmly believes that meaningful change is attainable for everyone, even though the process can be challenging. He views personal growth as a collaborative journey in which clients, through vulnerability, and shared understanding, can discover hope, strength, and resilience.
In addition to his counseling practice, Mitchell has served as a part-time missionary for the past 10 years. He is a devoted husband and father of three boys. In his personal time, he enjoys gardening, woodworking, disc golf, and quality coffee. His Christian faith is central to his life and leans heavily on the grace of God for personal change, joy and fruit in his life. Mitchell looks forward to connecting with individuals and couples from all walks of life and meeting them wherever they are on their journey.
